ChungRim invites 100 fans to his 100th day debut anniversary fanmeeting

In lieu with his 100th day debut after releasing the minialbum ‘Step’, ChungRim will be inviting 100 fans to his fanmeeting.

He will be holding the fanmeeting on 9th August in a small theatre in Seoul JongRi and the first 100 fans to arrive will be invited in for his fanmeeting.

That day, ChungRim will be performing the songs off his debut minialbum and also be singing a new acoustic version of ‘Only in my heart’ from the album.

Currently, ChungRim is modeling for ‘JamBangEe’ together with Han HyoJoo.

He is also appearing for SBS drama ‘Dream’ together with other pretty boy artistes like Marco, Julian Kang, HyunWoo etc.

Only 2 months into debut, 4Minutes gets another endorsement!

4Minute is marching towards what seems like a big hit.

It is only 2 months into new girlgroup 4Minute’s debut, they are up for another modeling project – and this time they will be the publicity models for Korean character brand ‘PUCCA’.

The advertising company said, “4Minute goes well with PUCCA character, while they are punky they are just as lovely like PUCCA, and that is why we chose them as the models.”

Meanwhile, 4Minute will be releasing their 1st minialbum with the title song ‘Hot Issue’ mid-August.

2NE1 nearing 100K copies of 1st minialbum sold

Group 2NE1’s first debut album is just a few steps away from reaching the 100K album sales mark.

The title song ‘I Don’t Care’ off their 1st minialbum is also #1 on various music charts. Their achievements as a newcomer singer group is almost unbelievable, and threatening the stronghold of the existing strong singers.

YG Entertainment said, “Even though it is about 1 month since the album is released, it is still selling about 1000 copies a day. We are continuously adding to the production of 2NE1’s minialbum, and up till now we have produced 80K copies, and we have just recently produced anohter 20K. With that the production for 2NE1’s minialbum has crossed the 100K mark.”

All these while, for a new singer to do well on album chart is not easy. For existing singers, it has to depend on a certain degree of fandom to achieve it and the effect can only be seen at the start of their album release.

YG Entertainment added, “2NE1, who has just released their 1st album, is a group with more to show. Do anticipate more from them as they will be showing more new sides of them.”

Meanwhile, 2NE1 is #1 for 3 weeks through on KBS Music Bank, and #1 2 weeks through on SBS Inkiagyo, doing very well on music shows.

Singer 60row criticises, “Big Bang GDragon? He’s like a gay rapper”

Rapper 60row has criticised Big Bang GDragon and SG Wannabe.

All this while known for his malicious tongue towards other celebrities in the zone and getting noise marketing out of it, singer 60row is back with a new album ‘Loving WonderLand’ after 1.5 years. And this time he critcises Big Bang GDragon and SG Wannabe.

60row begins with, “People who feels awkward and curious listening to my songs, don’t listen to it. And for people who are prepared to listen and have listened to it, listen to the other songs too. Then I’ll earn some money.”

He continued, “For people who are angry after listening to ‘Stop ya music’ and knowing my crticisms and labels for others, are you still curious? Big Bang? From ‘Lies’ and like ‘Lies’, they have been alright right now. GDragon who has the very gay rap tone. If the kid appears on the TV, I immediately switch channels. SG Wannabe? These people after 2 years their music are still very like trash.”

But on the other hand, 60row, “Yoon JongShin hyung’s lyric’s sentiments. Toy HeeYeol hyung’s wiseness and calmness. The swag that joins the DOC hyungs’ generation. Ra.d’s swag that goes ahead time. And even the Broccoli Nomajo’s 2oth century’s feel” He talks about the artistes he looks up to.

Lastly he said, “Qualifications? I don’t know anything about it. I say what my heart likes. Rapper 60row is making a lot of buzz because of his song “stop ya music” and eliciting hot reactions from Netizens.

This song looks down on idol groups like SG Wanna Be, TVXQ!, BIG BANG and others and labeled them as “rubbish” and insisted that since “rubbish” is the trend in Korean music, it is going wrong.

60row is set to release an album in summer.

Se7en to release an album in Korea after 3 years

Singer Se7en will be back releasing a new album in Korea after 3 years.

Se7en, who has started working on his American music market advance in 2006 and has been preparing for his debut in America recently, is back in Korea recently, and had announced the released of his upcoming album, resuming his promotional activities in Korea. Also, there are also plans for him to promote in Japan. This is definitely good news for Korean and Japanese fans who have been waiting for his comeback.

A YG Entertainment representative said, “We have decided that Se7en will release a new album this year. The album will be released simultaneously in Korea and Japan and he will also be doing the promotions.”

The representative added, “This is not the end to this American activities. He will be advancing the American market looking at it in the long term view.”

SS501 Kim Hyun Joong, “2NE1 CL has caught my attention”

Idol group SS501 member Kim HyunJoong confessed, “2NE1 CL has caught my attention.”

Kim Hyun Joong was on MBC Section TV Entertainment Weekly on 7th August when he was asked, “Is there any member from the girlgroups that has caught your attention?”. And he answered, “2NE1’s CL.”

He said, “After I’ve seen CL, I went ‘Wa, that friend is really something’, with a great impression.”

He also said, “I haven’t seen CL in person.” and continued, “Even though I’m a few years senior, I hope to her singer activities will go well. I’m thankful for the influence she gave as a junior.”

Meanwhile, SS501 had their first concert performance of their 1st Asian concert tour in 4 years on 1st August.

Music charts review for 5th week of July

2NE1 has won their 3rd consecutive #1 on music charts.

The group’s current hit song ‘I Don’t Care’ is #1 again on music site Monkey3 for the 5th week of July (27th July – 2nd August). The song went on the chart at #11 and in just 2 weeks’ time it went up to the #1 position and this is their 3rd week winning #1.

Meanwhile, Park MyungSoo and Jessica’s duet ‘NaengMyun’ is at #2 and Future Liger (Tiger JK, Yoo JaeSeok and Yoon MiRae)’s ‘Let’s Dance’ is at #4 – both songs were from the special episode for Infinite Challenge.

And Brown Eyed Girls ‘Abracadabra’ is at #3 on the chart in just 2 weeks.

Idol Bonanza on Next Week’s Star Golden Bell!

It appears that Star Golden Bell has taken a cue from music shows MBC Music Core and SBS Inkigayo: throw a bunch of idol groups together, and us fans will eat it up. The August 15th edition of Star Golden Bell is an idol special, featuring members from SHINee, SNSD, 2PM, and Kara. While we all shake our knees in anticipation, here's a preview of the show, courtesy of prot0980:

 

That just might be the most action-packed preview I've ever seen. From SHINee doing the trademark hacky-sack dance of "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" alongside SNSD, to Wooyoung & Chansung providing us with some ssanti dance, to Taecyeon's classic jaw-swipe from the "I Hate You" choreography (complete with female imitators), to Onew's comical imitation of Jonghyun's unique singing voice, to Seungyeon's rendition of Taecyeon's hunky sunglasses removal (a lot of Taecyeon, eh?), to Yoona reaching maximum adorable levels, this episode looks like it has the potential to be one of those Korean variety shows you will always remember (and I apologize for the Hawthorne-esque length of that sentence).

Kara’s Nicole doesn’t want TVXQ to disband

 

 

Nicole, member of group KARA, who are currently busy promoting their second full length album Revolution, expressed how she felt about the news regarding TVXQ.

While in the waiting room for KBS2TV's Music Bank where KARA had a special stage with Brown Eyed Girls, Nicole was asked by reporters about her thoughts on the on-going trouble in SM Entertainment regarding the case filed by the 3 members of TVXQ against the management.

Nicole expressed outright that she did not want the group to disband.

She says "I'm really sad about the rumors regarding the disbanding of TVXQ. As a fan that really likes TVXQ, I hope that this problem can be solved amicably. I don't think it will be the same if any one member quits the group. I think they shine the brightest when the 5 of them take the stage as a group, as TVXQ. I hope they don't disband and that they continue to be together just like how they are right now."

Super Junior HeeChul returns to acting after 1 year

Group Super Junior (26) will be back as an actor for weekend drama ‘Love you tens thousand times’.

He appeared on drama previously on SBS weekend drama ‘Golden Bride’ a an university student YeongSoo, and this time he will be acting as a part-time working a snack bar named ‘Lee BaeDal’.

The first airing of the drama will take place on 29th August. It is said that Kim HeeChul will have a comedian role in the drama, as Kim ChungJa who is the scriptwriter of dramas in the 50s, and is one who would be dumped by girls in one morning after going after them.

Kim HeeChul was chosen for the role because of his usual brave and comedian side.

2PM has joined the child and youth protection campaign.

The campaign was organized by British’s brand ‘The Bodyshop’, who have branches over 60 countries, with the slogan ‘Soft Hands, Kind Heart’ and has chosen 2PM as their ambassador.

2PM went to shoot for the campaign by wearing the T-shirt with hands-print on it. Starting from August 13th onwards, donation through the homepage can be made and a lucky draw for the lucky participant will be chosen.

2PM, who was appointed as the ambassador for this project, will starts their promotion campaign on the August 13th and will be broadcasted on cable channel TV Olive.

Kpop idols singers trapped in slave contracts?

After three members of Dong Bang Shin Ki filed for a Exclusive Contract Validity Suspension and Provisional Disposition Request and revealed the ugly truth behind their contracts, a storm has begun in the entertainment business.

The attention has spread to other entertainment agencies that debut singers as Asia’s top idol group and Korea’s top entertainment agency have a dispute over contracts; the scandalous debate of ’slave contracts’ between celebrities and their agencies continues.

What is going on in the Kpop Industry?

It was found that Girls’ Generation’s Yoona’s contract was the same length as TVXQ’s 13-year contract. The members of Super Junior each have a contract that lasts between 5 and 13 years. The contracts of the members of ‘SHINee‘ lasted from 6 to 13 years. This singers all work under SM Entertainment.

One member of Super Junior, which is comprised of 13 members, had a phone conversation with Daily Sports on the 3rd an said, “Even if I wanted to move to another agency, the time left of my contract and the compensation I would have to pay would be too big to handle. We have to split our income into 13 so we don’t get as much as people think we get.” It was found that the members of Super Junior also held a conference regarding the issue as a team after TVXQ’s issue was known to the public.

In the case of other idol groups, Wondergirls‘ contract with JYP lasts for 7 years while Big Bang’s contract lasts for 5 years with YG Entertainment and SS501’s contract with DSP Entertainment lasts for 5 years.

This April~May, when the Fair Trade Committee inspected 20 entertainment agencies such as YG and Star Empire, it was found that 230 celebrities under 19 agencies had unlawful clauses in their contracts. They had clauses like, ‘Star must tell Agency of their exact location at all times,’ ‘If Star decides to cancel his/her contract, Star must stop all activities relating to or resulting from Star’s celebrity status,’ ‘Star cannot retire without Agency’s consent.’ The revisions of large entertainment agencies are done and now the middle-sized agencies will be revised.
Idols, the majority in slave contracts?

When it comes to law disputes regarding exclusive contract, it has been more of a dispute with actors more than it has been a dispute with singers. But one director of an entertainment agency said, “The reason that the unlawful exclusive contracts of singers hasn’t been seen much by the public is that the Kpop industry focuses more on the connections one can get rather than having a lawful contract.” He also said, “Everyone knows that a rookie won’t survive if they strike up a problem with their agency,” and “There are probably a lot of singers suffering from unlawful contracts.”

For idol singers, many are in their teens who go through 2~3 years of training. Since it is impossible for them to debut if they do not meet eye to eye with their agencies, they have no choice but to agree to the extreme contracts set up by agencies. Since agencies go by a system in which they raise their trainees from a young age, there have been problems regarding agencies that try to take all that ‘investment money’ back when the singer becomes famous. There has also been a bigger problem in which the few people that do succeed and become stars must compensate for the numerous that don’t (which can add up to be a large number) by compensating for the dropouts’ investment money as well.

Of course, the agencies retaliated with their own reasons for doing so. They say that it would be impossible to run an agency if every singer asked to change their contract when they became famous when billions of Won are invested in each of them during their training stages. But music critic Lim Jinmo said, “If Korean agencies continue to only think of the ‘income’ that their singers will bring and not the rights of their singers, than the TVXQ crisis will repeat itself over and over again,” and “An agency is a company that cannot exist or survive without its singers.”

Lee Min Jung gets her first leading role

Lee Min-jung, most well-known for her recent role playing Lee Min-ho’s annoying (but endearing) fiancée in Boys Before Flowers, is getting her first leading role. It’ll be in the new SBS weekend drama Smile (more literally, Smile, You [그대, 웃어요], which is a working title).

At first glance, the story seems somewhat reminiscent of early descriptions for My Fair Lady — Lee Min-jung’s character is the immature second daughter in a chaebol family. However, one key difference is that this chaebol family is on the decline (while Yoon Eun-hye’s is very much still rolling in the riches). After they are thrown into sudden ruin, they are taken in by the family of their longtime chauffeur (played by Choi Bool-am, the grand chef in SBS’s Gourmet). One can only imagine all the sorts of shenanigans that arise.

I think I’m hooked already! The setup has got a lot of familiar elements, but employs just enough of a twist to make me want to see how all this plays out. This makes sense given the PD-writer team of Lee Tae-gon and Moon Hee-jung, who showed their ability to add refreshing touches to well-worn, familiar stories with last year’s updated Cinderella tale The Last Scandal of My Life, which was zippy fun. On top of all that, Lee Min-jung is bright, charming, and talented. Sign me up.

The drama which will follow the just-premiered Style and air in October. According to a representative with SBS’s drama department, Lee Min-jung’s casting is “almost finalized,” which means the documents have to be processed but the casting is pretty much a go.

G-Dragon wants you ?

G-Dragon wants you to join him. More specifically, follow / join him on me2day. What is me2day? It's basically a Korean version Twitter. Just like the fans in America can basically be up to date with their favorite celebrities, fans can now be in the know with their Korean celebrities. After 2NE1 joined the network, Big Bang's leader G-Dragon was next to follow. Fans doubted whether it was real or not but he just updated with some pictures showing some credibility. You can tell from the pictures that he has a tight little bond with fellow leader CL and that he's still his quirky self despite his schedule.
